Thank you, that was a real trip down memory lane! I adored those books as a child and read and reread them. In life I have always found it a personal goal to explore and make sure that any 'north west passage' is found and explored before moving on. I must read them again.

Thanks. I've recently revisited some of them as audiobooks, which is a nice way to get a new taste of an old favourite.

Someone on Substack mentioned Winter Holiday recently so I decided to reread it. You’re so right about Dick and the crag fast sheep!

I spent hours as a child drawing maps inspired by Swallows and Amazons.

Loved the Swallows & Amazons books as a child. A decade ago, I finally realised my ambition to visit Wild Cat Island. I was delighted how closely it matched the book.

Nice story. Reminds me of my own visit, by kayak. Managed to capsize, on a cold, windy day, but professionally obliged to continue so my biggest memory is being pigging freezing the whole time I was there. Needed a long cafe stop, bacon butty, and several coffees to thaw out.

Wonderfull story, especially about the great outdoors. this reminds me of a similar individual, my husband Leo Le Bon, adventurer, traveler, trekker and mountaineer, who spend the last 50 years roaming the earth to help others see the bounty of the great outdoors.

His memoir is coming out soon. Check on Google. Nadia Billie Le Bon
